The Sinking of Sleipner A Offshore Platform, 1991

The Sleipner A platform sank during preparation for deck mating in Gandsfjorden outside Stavanger, Norway on 23 August 1991. The platform produces oil and gas in the North Sea. The failure involved a total economic loss of about $700 million.
