Getting around in Bonn

Concur'06 location

Concur'06 is located in the central building of the University of Bonn (Universitätshauptgebäude). The street address is "Am Hof 1". You can enter the building from the north (inner city, pedestrian precinct) or from the south (Hofgarten, a big park located directly in front of the building).

By foot

Most locations in the inner city area (pedestrian precinct) are within walking distance of Concur'06 (restaurants, cafs, bars, shopping), as well as the hotels located in the inner city and the central station (5-10 min).

Public transport

Bonn has a comprehensive network of public transportation services, with several tram and subway lines and a good bus network.

Stations near Concur'06

Some stations near the Concur'06 location:

  • Hauptbahnhof (central station) is the main station of Bonn, with the main bus station, the tram lines (61,62), subway lines (66,63,16,18) and the train station (interregional and regional trains to Cologne, etc.). The station is within walking distance to Concur'06, follow the signs City and "Universität".
  • Universität/Markt: Subway station for the lines 66, 16 and 63, directly at the main university building.
  • Bonn Markt: Bus station located about 100m from the entrance of the University building. This station is served by many buses going to Hauptbahnhof, but being in a one way street not from buses coming from Hauptbahnhof. The buses coming from the Köln/Bonn airport (line 670) stop at this station, for going to the airport, you have to take the bus at Hauptbahnhof.

Nightbus

After the last regular buses and trams, night buses take over. There are 9 lines that all start at Hauptbahnhof (central station) and drive a circle getting back to Hauptbahnhof about an hour later. Weeknights, they start at Hauptbahnhof at 0:31, 1:31 and 2:31, more often and longer on Friday and Saturday night and for some lines.

Tickets and Tariffs

For a single trip in Bonn, buy an EinzelTicket (single ticket) Erwachsene (for Adults), price level 1b (Bonn area) at 2,20 €. It is valid in trams, the subway and buses for 90 minutes, during which you can change transports or have a break, but you can not use a single ticket for returning to the origin.

For more frequent trips, you can buy a ticket valid for 4 trips, at 7,40 € at price level 1b. The ticket has 4 areas that have to be validated inside the bus, tram, etc while boarding.

For short trips, i.e. trips using a single tram, subway or bus and at most 4 stops to the destination, you can buy a KurzStreckenTicket (short trip ticket) at 1,30 €.

Tickets for a whole day (TagesTicket) are available for 6,00 € at price level 1b and are valid for the day until 3am of the following day. They are also available for groups of up to 5 persons (TagesTicket 5 Personen) at 9,00 €. Note: The group ticket is only valid from 9am of the current day to 3am of the following day.

Tickets for a whole week are also available at 17,30 € at price level 1b, unfortunately only from Monday to the next Monday. They should be bought online beforehand at the VRS ticket shop and can be printed at home, because otherwise you need to create a picture card at one of the service centers. Note: While registering at the online shop, write down the password, as you can't change it later and need it to access the PDF of the bought ticket. You have to have a valid ID card that matches the information you entered when you bought the ticket.

Buying tickets

  • Bus:
    You can buy tickets from the driver using coins and bills.
  • Tram/subway:
    There are vending machines in the tram and subway trains, as well as in some of the stations, which provide an interface in English. The vending machines inside the trains only accept coins and Geldkarte (a German micro payment system). The vending machines in the stations also accept bills.

By car

The city center of Bonn consists of one big pedestrian precinct, surrounded by one-way streets. Parking is mostly available via underground parking garages, the one located most conveniently for Concur'06 is the Uni-Garage, with exits directly into the main University building.
